Islamic books for kids

Children's Islamic books do two jobs at once: they teach, and they have to hold attention while doing it. The range here runs from board books and picture books for the very young, through Quran and Prophet stories for early readers, to fuller collections for children reading confidently on their own.

Boxed sets and little libraries make up a good part of it, which is what most people choose for a gift or a madrassah prize. Titles come from a number of publishers, so the same subject often appears at several reading levels.

For help choosing by reading level, see our guide to the best Islamic books for kids, by age.

Questions and answers

What age are these Islamic books for?
The range covers board books for toddlers through to story collections for confident readers around ten and up. The intended age or reading level is given on the product page where the publisher supplies it.
What kinds of stories do they cover?
The most common are Quran stories, stories of the Prophets, seerah and stories of the Sahabah, alongside books teaching duas and the basics of salah. Some are single stories and others are collections.
What languages are the kids books in?
Mostly English, with a number of Arabic and dual language titles across the range. The language appears on each product page, and it is the detail most worth confirming when buying for a child.
Do you sell boxed sets?
Yes, boxed sets and little libraries are a large part of this range and are the usual choice for a gift. What is included in a set is listed on its product page.
Which books suit a child just starting to read?
Short single stories with large text and strong illustration work best at that stage, rather than a thick collection. Board books suit younger children who are still being read to.
Are these suitable for madrassah?
Some are used at madrassah, though set kitaabs are stocked separately on the madrassah books page. If you are buying to a set list, check the exact title and edition.
Do you stock Qurans for children?
Children's Qurans and first readers appear in this range, with full Qurans and tafseer on their own page. Print size is the thing to check for a young reader.
What makes a good madrassah prize?
A boxed set or an illustrated story collection tends to land best, since it lasts longer than a single book. Pairing a book with a juzdaan is a common choice for a prize.
How much do kids Islamic books cost?
Children's titles at Cii Stores start from around R20 and run to roughly R350 for larger boxed sets. Most single titles sit well under R150.
Can I browse the children's books in store?
Yes, and it is easier than choosing online when you are buying for a specific child. Cii Stores is a physical shop in Ormonde, Johannesburg, and you can also order for delivery across South Africa.
Do you restock titles that sell out?
Popular titles are generally reordered, though availability depends on the publisher. If a specific book is not showing, it is worth asking whether it can be sourced.
How much is delivery and how long does it take?
Standard shipping is R160 and orders are delivered within 3 to 5 business days. Delivery is free on orders over R1500.
Can I return a kids book?
Yes. Non consumable items can be returned within 7 days in unused, unopened condition and in their original packaging. Please note that sale items are non refundable.
