Al-Ghazali, The Mystic

Al-Ghazali’s place in the history of Sufism is that of the thinker who really systematized it doctrines and gave them clearness and precision and by his great influence enabled Sufism henceforward to be accepted as an integral-and the most vital-element in Islam. It is a significant fact that at the present time al-Ghazali’s works are still read and studied more widely than those of any other Muslim writer, throughout the length and breadth of the world of Islam.
