Goodword is the publisher behind a large part of the Islamic childrens books stocked here. If you have bought an illustrated Quran story for a child in South Africa, there is a good chance it was theirs.

Choosing by age

The range is graded, and the format tells you the age. Board books run about 22 pages and are built for hands that are not gentle yet. Illustrated storybooks come next, from short single stories up to collections of a hundred or more. The 365 collections give one story a day across a year, which is how they get read consistently rather than once.

Beyond reading

A good part of the range is not read at all. Quiz card packs of 55 cards cover the Quran, the Seerah, the Sahabah and the prophets, and are used in madrassah classes and holiday programmes. Activity books, flash cards and wipe clean books work for children who need something to do alongside the reading.

Learning Arabic

The Madinah Arabic Reader by Dr. V. Abdur Rahim runs eight graded books and is the Arabic course most often started here. It is strictly sequential, so it does not work out of order. The Arabic Writing workbooks by the same author cover handwriting alongside it.
